PRIMARY SCHOOL PROVIDES AREAS OF STRENGTH

Ofsted inspectors have given Carisbrooke CE Primary School a Grade 2 ‘Good’ rating in its latest inspection. The school  which is based on Wellington Road  is described as giving a ‘good education for pupils and there are some areas of real strength’.

Pupils also talk enthusiastically of how they enjoy going to school and they make excellent use of the facilities available to them. Most of the pupils meet or exceed the goals expected of them by the end of Reception and by the end of Year 2 and Year 4, standards are above average.

The school’s curriculum is described as being ‘motivating’ and this contributes to the children’s progress. Pupils tell of feeling safe and well cared for and they can approach adults for any help and advice.

The way the children contribute to the local community is ‘outstanding’ both inside and outside of the school and these activities help contribute to the pupil’s excellent economic awareness and the preparation for later life. Inspectors do highlight that more effective recording of some aspects of pastoral care would help the school track and review the impact of its provision better.

Headteacher Wendy Gibbins is described as being ‘very effective’ and is ably assisted by her staff who share a clear vision for the school’s future development. The school strives for improvement and there is no complacency, reflecting a good capacity to continue to improve.

Mrs Gibbins said “We are really pleased Ofsted have described us as a good school. We were particularly pleased that they recognised the strengths in teaching and learning and that the pupils enjoy learning. Further, there is recognition that the school makes an excellent contribution to the community in preparing our pupils well for their future. Everyone is very proud and we will now begin developments to ensure our school is even better for the future”.

Councillor Patrick Joyce – Isle of Wight Council’s Cabinet Member for Schools Leadership & Governance said “I send my congratulations to all at Carisbrooke Primary. So many of our schools here are getting impressive Ofsted inspections and that is something we can be very proud of”.
