DAY SERVICES AT MEDINA CENTRE AND MEADOWBROOK

Medina Centre

Learning Disability Day Services at Medina Centre and Meadowbrook are provided NHS Isle of Wight (the PCT) under contract to Isle of Wight Council.

NHS Isle of Wight has now received notice from the council that it is gradually withdrawing from the provision of existing day services at Medina Centre and Meadowbrook and moving towards the provision of personal budgets for eligible service users.

Under this nationally-driven approach, individual clients are given more choice and control over the services that they receive to meet their individual requirements and personalised support plans.

In other words, they have the opportunity, with support, to choose for themselves the type of care most relevant to their individual needs as opposed to that currently offered as standardised packages under the existing arrangement.

Both Isle of Wight Council and NHS Isle of Wight recognise that the current service is valued by service users and carers and that the proposed change has significant implications for them and staff.  A consultative day has been arranged for 23rd June to enable service users and carers to be fully involved in planning the next steps in the process which could involve improving the facilities currently offered at Meadowbrook.   A meeting prior to this has been arranged for NHS Isle of Wight staff to discuss the impact of the decision on current service provision.
