Isle of Wight Council is advertising a large part of land it owns in Newport for commercial development.
The eight acre land next to St George’s Park, part of which includes an overflow carpark, will be advertised both locally and in the Estates Gazette from 10 July.
Isle of Wight Council Leader David Pugh said “The local authority is always keen to encourage regeneration and employment opportunities on the Island and the council has been planning on bringing this commercial development opportunity forward for some time, alongside the Pan Meadows scheme.
“In the 2009 Island-wide Retail Capacity Study Update, it is recommended that the council should meet any future demand for commercial retail outlets on sites both in main town centres and also the outskirts.
“With work already underway on Pan Meadows, we have a duty to ensure there is more commercial choice for residents although clearly there are many considerations that must be taken into account.
“We are sure we will get much commercial interest in the land and look forward to working with any potential developers to ensure any future schemes are right for the Island and its residents”
