A market trader who has admitted selling unlawful products following an inspection and subsequent investigation from IW Council Trading Standard’s officers will be sentenced on Friday 9 July.
Graham Raymond Thearle, formerly of 148 Sandown Road, Shanklin, Isle of Wight, pleaded guilty at a court appearance on 7 June 2010 at Newport (Isle of Wight) Crown Court to six charges under either the Copyright, Designs and Patents Acts 1988 and the Trade Marks Act 1994.
His market stall was visited several times by Trading Standards officers during the summer and autumn of 2008 following information received that some of the products on offer were either illegal copies or fake merchandise.
This included Irish jokes CDs, a Dusty Springfield CD and salt and pepper pots branded with either the Playboy logo or the Manchester United club badge. Each of the six charges carries a maximum penalty of an unlimited fine or up to 10 years in prison. The hearing is being held at the Isle of Wight Crown Court in Newport.
