Brading V Rew Valley. The 2nd game of the new season brought us to Lake Middle School to play a mighty Brading side. With the quite sunny and bright morning we had, how would the valley play today?
The game started quite evenly matched with the ball flying from one end to the other like a yo-yo with even some adventurous shots which could of hit the airport!!! Declan Clarke, Antony Kettell, Harry Wintersgill and Jake Ferguson played fantastically in midfield attacking and defending. The deadlock broke with a great goal by Antony Kettell for Rew Valley to make the score 1-0. The game then flowed quite nicely for Rew Valley with only the slight attack from Brading at times. Bailey Exposite played superbly in goal making exceptional saves in the whole game. Antony Kettell scored an absolutely superb goal for Rew Valley with all the supporters going crazy ( well the Rew Valley supporters anyway) but Brading responded with a goal a minute later. In the final seconds of the half the second Brading goal was scored in injury time which seemed to go on for longer than it should. I think the ref had a different clock to mine! Still the ref is always right!!! Half time arrived with the score level at 2-2.
With the short half time ending the 2nd half started with great determination from Rew Valley with a goal being so close past the line but never did unfortunately. Jack Croad and Callum Ryan played excellently up front and also made great tackles when needed. Brading scored a goal in the 38th minute. Despite the goal, Rew Valley did not give up with some excellent tackles by Baggy Silman, Callum Steele, the new boy Declan and George Hyde. Brading then scored in the 50th, 54th, 57thand the 59th minute which wasn’t too good for us and very unlucky. The final whistle went with the score being 7-2 to Brading. The Brading goal scorers were Liam Sumpter (3) , Dylan Tucky (3) and Callum Mckean (1)
A good first half I have to admit but it just seemed to slip away from us in the final half of the game. Never mind as people say “you can’t win them all.” Let’s just hope the next game is better.
