Playing football in the snow
Rew Valley v Downside: On a bitterly cold Sunday morning with the snow underneath our feet, Rew Valley were playing Downside at Ventnor Middle which was sure to be an exciting match.
How would the new playing conditions Rew Valley were playing in today affect their performance? Let’s find out.
The game started with great pace and effort by the Valley. Travis Steptoe, Declan Morgan Philips and George Hyde played fantastically in defence tackling when the ball came into sight. Antony Kettell opened the score line with a fantastic goal in the 5th minute.
Callum Steele and Jack Croad played fantastically in their roles doing all they could to contribute. In the 28th minute Antony Kettell scored his 2nd goal to bring the half time score 2-0.
The 2nd half started with a sudden attack from the Valley bringing Antony Kettell his Hat-trick to put Rew Valley 3-0 up. The game then settled into an evenly matched game with the main part of the game in the centre of the pitch. Downside got a goal in the 44th minute so Antony Kettell responded with a superb goal in the 47th minute. With Rew Valley gambling on the change of goal keepers, Downside got 2 goals in the 54th and 55th minute making the final 5 minutes an entertaining one. With the goalie changing back, Rew Valley were certain of the win now with a 4-3 win.
Well a massive thank you to all of the supporters and Staff who braved the weather and to the individuals who put the goals up and down. A thank you goes to the Downside parent who helped us all take the goals down. Also, a thank you to all the players who turned up in the conditions and played their socks off. They must of been frozen by the end of the game!!! Anyway a great result for the valley and let’s hope the next game goes the same way!!!
