Members of Facebook can receive the latest news on how the adverse weather is affecting services such as schools and roads, direct from the council.
The local authority has expanded its online services and will post information such as school closures on Facebook alongside its main www.iwight.com site.
Facebook members should search for ‘Isle of Wight Council – Adverse Weather Service Updates’ and then click on ‘Like’ to receive the latest updates.
The move is one way the council is expanding the ways residents can receive important information during adverse weather conditions. Between January 5 – 12 this year, the council’s iwight.com site received over 2.3m page views and had 175,000 unique visitors as residents logged on to get information during the snowfall.
Iwight.com will continue to be constantly updated during the freezing weather conditions and also contains other useful information, such as gritting routes and emergency contact numbers.
The public should also listen to local media for updates.
