POLICE APPEAL TO TRACE DRIVER AFTER ROAD COLLISION

Police Vans

Police are appealing for a driver with possible information about a road traffic collision on the Isle of Wight to come forward.

A white Vauxhall Corsa was being driven along the main road from Upper Ventnor towards Wroxall at around 1.30pm on Wednesday, December 15, 2010

The Corsa driver attempted to overtake another car, a white Peugeot 106 Ski, travelling in the same direction. The Corsa then collided with the near side verge of the road as the driver avoided colliding head-on with a third car, which was being driven towards Upper Ventnor.

The Corsa driver, a 22-year-old man from Surrey, received whiplash.

Investigating officer PC Geoff Turner of the Isle of Wight Roads Policing Unit said: “We’ve examined the collision scene and spoken with the drivers of the Vauxhall Corsa and Peugeot 106 over the past fortnight. Our enquiries now are focused on tracing the driver of the as yet unidentified car, which was travelling on the main road from Wroxall towards Ventnor.

“Although no one was seriously injured, and there was no contact between any of the cars involved, police remain keen to speak with this third driver so we can establish the full circumstances of what happened.”

The driver or anyone else with information is asked to contact PC Geoff Turner of the Isle of Wight Roads Policing Unit at Shanklin Police Station by phoning 101 or emailing http://www.hampshire.police.uk/Internet/contact/message_officer.htm.

From outside Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, call the police on 0845 045 45 45. Mini-Com users can call the police on 01962 875000. Information can be given anonymously by calling the independent Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
