Red Funnel has been awarded the prestigious environmental accreditation ISO 14001:2004, by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.
ISO 14001:2004 is highly sought after and one that the team at Red Funnel has been working towards since achieving the quality standards accreditation ISO 9001:2008, three years ago. The ISO 14001:2004 accreditation sets out environmental management standards that are focused on ensuring organisations are focused on minimising their operations impact on the environment, comply with all applicable laws, regulations and environmental standards and are focused on continual improvements to environmental sustainability.
Commenting on this achievement, Red Funnel CEO, James Fulford said: ‘our team has worked tirelessly to gain this highly prestigious accreditation, making us one of the few ferry companies in Europe to have achieved this standard. As a group we are committed to ensuring that our impact on the environment is minimal and this achievement shows that our procedures work and will continue to evolve in the future’.
This achievement is also timely as 2011 marks the 150th anniversary of Red Funnel Ferries, which has been operating ferry services to the Isle of Wight since 1861. From the early days Red Funnel has adopted the latest innovations to improve the efficiency of their vessels and their impact on the environment. In 2011 Red Funnel uses the latest low sulphur fuels, anti-foul paints and all waste materials from vessels are segregated and recycled meeting the ISO 14001:2004 standards.
