Police are releasing CCTV footage of events surrounding the report of an assault on a woman in Newport on the Isle of Wight.
Detectives are appealing for more witnesses, in particular two women, to come forward after a 39-year-old woman received injuries to her leg and was taken to hospital. The injuries were not life threatening.
Officers were called at five minutes past midnight on Saturday, June 11, 2011 to Fairlee Road outside the Medina Arboretum entrance to the Isle of Wight Music Festival.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Beth Haynes of the Isle of Wight Public Protection Unit (PPU) said: “I would like to thank all the witnesses who have responded to our previous appeals and come forward with information. We are continuing to follow several lines of enquiry to confirm the identity of people thought to be involved in an assault.
“Fairlee Road was busy at the time with pedestrians and motorists because of the Isle of Wight Festival. Therefore, I’m appealing to anyone else who remembers seeing or hearing a disturbance involving a group of people near the entrance to Medina High School at around midnight on the morning of Saturday, June 11.
“We’re now in a position to release CCTV pictures and footage of a woman who was in the area at around the time this assault was reported. Attempts have been made to enhance these images, which show two women sat on the green between Fairlee Road and Medina Arboretum entrance to the Isle of Wight Music Festival shortly before midnight.”
One of the women was described as:
- White
- Aged in her early 20s
- 5 ft 4 ins tall
- Wearing a white long sleeved top
These two women or anyone with information about their identities are asked to contact the Isle of Wight Public Protection Unit (PPU) by phoning 101 or emailing iow.public.protection@hampshire.pnn.police.uk
