Two people die after car goes over culver cliff

A man and a woman have died on the Isle of Wight this evening after the car they were in went over a cliff on the Isle of Wight.

Officers were called around 8pm this evening after reports a car had gone over Culver Cliffs at Bembridge with two people inside. Emergency services attended the scene and the body of a man and woman were recovered from an upturned blue car at the bottom of the cliffs.

Rescue units were sent to the scene including Coastguard Rescue teams from Bembridge and Ryde and Ventnor, the Coastguard Rescue helicopter from Lee on Solent, Bembridge RNLI all weather lifeboat and inshore lifeboat as well as Fire and Rescue officers, ambulance and Police.

Police are now investigating the circumstances which led to the incident and are appealing for any witnesses to call Newport CID on 101.
