The Wightlink Islanders Knock-Out cup hurdle

Wightlink Islanders face Mildenhall Fen Tigers in the second leg of the National league KO Cup Semi-final tonight with a 7.30pm start time.

The Islanders are in a must win situation to extend their season, failure to overcome the 20 point lead the Fen Tigers hold will bring an end to their 2011 home season on the Island next Tuesday 20th September against Sheffield/Scunthorpe and no progression to the KO Cup final against Stoke.

Co-promoter Chris Hunt said, “I’d just like to see a good performance, it would be disappointing to lose, I would be really disappointed if we don’t put up a fight. If everybody does their best then that is all they can do and all I can ask.”

This weekend also sees the Wightlink Islanders travel to Buxton on Sunday afternoon in another rearranged league fixture to take on the Hitmen who the Islanders beat 49-34 early last month at Smallbrook.

Hunt added, “It’s not impossible but 21 points is a lot, if it were 16 points you might think there was a better chance. It has to be our best performance of the year tonight, we haven’t won by 20 points all season so this has to be a special performance if we are to progress.”
